Orquestra Imperial is a Brazilian big band (with 19 musicians and singers, including the Brazilian actress and pop star Thalma de Freitas and the samba veteran Wilson das Neves) that plays the old-school dancehall samba style called Gafieira.

“Carnaval só ano que vem” (2007) is Orquestra Imperial's debut album. The 14 tracks include original songs by several of the performers along with a few gafieira classics. The record sustains a spirited 'live' sound that blends voices, acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards, horns, woodwinds and plenty of percussion. 

In the marvelous way that much of the best Brazilian music does, “Carnaval só ano que vem” sounds simultaneously nostalgic and cutting-edge.
